About Corby
I’d like to tell you a little about myself, the woman behind Corby Chic.
It seems like I’ve studied the art of being a sophisticated woman and the world of fashion, beauty and grace since birth. I scoured magazines and any books I could get my hands on to learn everything possible about stylish living. In fact, I still have the first book my mother gave me in 1975 on style, and I’ve acquired hundreds since then.
My mother said I was born wearing heels. I’d have to say she was right, but I also like to think I had some fabulous handbags to accompany my arrival.
So who am I? I am a woman of conviction, passion, persistence and an enduring love for women of all ages. I am a wife and mother of three boys, fondly known as the Sons of Thunder. Some of my most favorite things to do in life are to shop, decorate, feast, teach and pray. I love home decor, fashion, and beauty and studied voice for more than 10 years.
In college, I studied communications, primarily radio, television and film. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Christian Counseling from Oral Roberts University. My education allows me to help others with not only communicating, but on working through the issues that life throws at them.
I competed in the Miss Oklahoma Pageant and held several titles, including Miss Tulsa, and won swimsuit and placed sixth at Miss Oklahoma. I’ve also been a modeling instructor for The John Casablanca School of Modeling in Washington D.C.
I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I have been fortunate to work and live all over the country: Beverly Hills, New York City, Washington D.C., Juneau, Alaska, and metro Atlanta. I was blessed to travel to almost every state in the U.S. and visited many European countries.
A life-changing event occurred in third grade when I was diagnosed with a learning disability as well as dyslexia. The truth is, being a poor student can impact every area of your life. That, coupled with being chosen last for sports, terrified of public speaking (ironic now) and other issues made me insecure and lacking the confidence I needed to be a bold and confident woman.
But thanks to God I was blessed with an awesome family, My parents were very proud and supportive of me through all this. They told me I could be anything and anyone I set my mind to. They believed in me. My father always reminded me that “struggles make you stronger.” And struggle I did, but they were beside me the entire journey. And they instilled in me not only confidence, but a deep abiding faith – in God and myself.
My mom later enrolled me in finishing and modeling schools to help build my confidence. And it worked. I became much more confident and secure in who I was. I literally began to change what I was into who I am now.
I understand the challenges facing women in today’s world – I’ve been there. Now, I have the privilege to teach others what I’ve learned: to become women of grace and style.
Corby Chic is all about teaching women to be the best they can be!
